Biometric Security System

Ysgol Calon Cymru has a cashless catering system operated through Powys County Council. The new system will allow us to continue with the development of the school meal service, and will provide us with a more efficient, faster and ultimately better quality of service. This system incorporates the latest technology and eliminates the need for pupils to carry cash throughout the day thus reducing the risk of bullying. It is also biometric so there is no need for pupils to carry a card as the system will recognise the thumb of your child at the revaluation pay points and at the tills.

The system is operated solely by Powys County Council.

The biometric information that will be used is the index fingerprint.  The system will take measurements of the student’s fingerprint and convert it into a template, which will be used to provide each student with access to the school buildings.

Biometric Data Protection

Consent / Objection to the use of Biometric Information

Consent given by one parent will be overridden if the other parent objects in writing to the use of a student’s biometric information.  Similarly, if the student objects, the school cannot collect his / her biometric information.

Similarly, regardless whether parental consent has been given, a student can object at any time to the removal of their biometric information.  Such objection must be given in writing.  When a student leaves the school, their biometric information will be securely deleted.
